Women serve as doctors, nurses and paramedics in the healthcare organization but not enough of them are taking up leadership posts.
However the statistics are unavailable for the UAE, in the USA, women make up more than half of the workforce but they constitute merely 21% of executives and 21% of board members at Fortune 500 healthcare industries. That is in accordance to a research by venture fund Rock Health.
Alisha Moopen, Aster DM Healthcare’s chief executive of GCC hospitals and clinics, claimed there could be a same disparity in the UAE.
”In the UAE, we are moving in the right direction, but we yet have much to achieve,” she stated.
“We require females to advance fast enough to meet the present and future requirements of health care.
“That being said, I do consider we have many socio-cultural hurdles to break and more gender-equality bridges to make.
“I do consider that women in the healthcare space regionally have yet to be encouraged, promoted and involved in executive positions to unlock their real potential.”
Dr Shanila Laiju, chief operating officer for the Medcare group, claimed various women faced the problem of balancing work and family life. “Persons take a break when they are planning a family but this should not prevent women from working. Have faith in yourself. Take chances even if you fear,” claimed the 45-year-old Indian expatriate.
