Health care prices are going up for Anne Arundel County and its school system.
School officials estimated a 6.4% increase in its costs for the next fiscal year, while the county is estimating a 4.8% increase for the next year, in accordance to county auditor Jodee Dickinson.
School officials said they are short on their insurance fund because the County Council diverted $18 million from the fund to pay for other parts of the budgets a few years ago.
Council members say the fund had a significant surplus at the time, which was used to pay for significant services.
County Executive Steve Schuh declared on the day of Friday he will allocate $10 million from the county budget to the school system's health care fund as a one-time expense. He declares his county budget Monday, which will include funds for the school system's health care fund.
